Software options

We accept files from most commonly used applications on Mac or PC. Our preferred file formats are listed below. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact us early on in the setup process to avoid any costly remedies.

FILE FORMATS:

Adobe Acrobat PDF files*
	Please download the “Starnet_Hires.joboptions” file for the correct Distiller settings. To place setting in correct folder for Acrobat 4 or 5: Go to Adobe Acrobat > Distiller > Settings folder and place the “.joboptions” file here. To place setting in correct folder for Acrobat 6: Open Distiller, Go under “Settings” menu drag down to “Add Adobe PDF Setting” browse to the location of the “Starnet_HiRes.joboptions” file you just downloaded, select it and click “Open”. The file will be added to your list.
Page Layout and Composition (recommended)

Some Known Problems (See 'dos and donts' for more):

1. PDF files created from within Adobe Illustrator may not convert correctly in the preflight process. Whenever possible run files through Acrobat Distiller using our job options setting. (See above PDF files link)
2. Avoid using layered Photoshop .psd files as art. Always flatten the layers and save as EPS or TIFF format.
3. When using Adobe Illustrator or Freehand to set type remember to select the text and create outlines from the pull down menus to avoid any font issues with placed or imported files.
4. Image and Art files created using “RGB” settings may experience color shifts when converted to “CMYK” in the output process. Whenever possible use “CMYK” color format for all images and art files.
5. PowerPoint is a great slide show tool, but not the best choice for page layout. If possible use an alternate program or save out files and create PDFs. Remember, PowerPoint is an “RGB” based application so there will be color shifts when files are converted to print.
